In this 4-day advanced kilnforming class, students will learn to create, decorate and slump weave strips in exciting, innovative ways. Students will use stringer, screen printing/enamel techniques and other methods to create interesting, one-of-a-kind weave strips and then learn how to weave, shape and fire these weaves. As part of this advanced class, Larry will demonstrate how to make an undulating, fabric-like SilkeMat mold and discuss how he frames/mounts his weaves for display.
During the class, students will:
1). Create strips using stringer, frit and screen-printing techniques;
2). Learn the art of creating shaped weaves (circle, heart, etc) and then learn to fire for maximum texture and effect;
3). Discover techniques used to firing and slump our glass pieces to get interesting and unique textures;
4). Learn techniques and firing schedules to create maximum texture & crisp edges without over-firing.
5). Learn & practice screen printing with enamels.
6). Students will learn, by demonstration, how to create an undulating SilkeMat mold and also learn several options for framing/mounting & displaying their weaves.
Students can expect to create one weave at least 12” x 12” (or larger, depending on class size and kiln space).
