In this 4-day advanced kilnforming class, students will learn to create, decorate and slump weave strips. We’ll use stringer, screen printing/enamel techniques and other methods to create interesting, one-of-a-kind woven strips. Students will also learn to make a SilkeMat mold to create an undulating texture (if desired) for their weaves. Larry will discuss how he frames/mounts his weaves for display.
During the class, students will:
1). Create strips using stringer, frit, screen-printed blanks;
2). Learn the art of weaving glass & creating shaped weaves (circles, hearts, etc.);
3). Discover the tricks to slumping glass pieces to get interesting and unique textures;
4). Learn important techniques and firing schedules to create maximum texture & crisp edges without over-firing.
5). Learn & practice methods of screen printing with enamels.
6). Students will learn how to create an undulating SilkeMat mold and, if studio desires, make a SilkeMat mold to be used in class. Students will also learn several options for framing/mounting & display of their weaves.
Students can expect to create one weave, the size to be dependent on kiln space & class size. Recommend at least 12x12 (if not larger).
